The diehard eVean in me

The most vivid memory of myself as a child is my walk for 3 kms uphill and then downhill to my school and back, everyday. There was always so much to observe and experience on the way, I keep thanking my destiny to have given me that childhood. Two factors were of prime importance- the people who would stop to ask me if I am fine and had food, and second being the terrains, uneven, ever changing but full of adventure.  As an adult, how I see these being translated into are my approach towards people, only as a fellow human being, and not as a relation, and secondly, being courageous enough to take on anything thrown upon me, opportunity or challenge. eVidyaloka, for me has just been a refection of my personality and thats what I would like it to stay as I move on. I have met people in eVidyaloka, who have transformed me as a person. My interview with Venkat, when he asked me that one particular thing which disturbs me everyday. And which made me think about what I was getting into ...

A decade ago- when eVidyaloka thought of a decade later.

Its a 10 for eVidyaloka! When the year 2020 impelled the world into adapting the online medium of communication, evidyaloka felt totally at home with the online medium. It was on this day, the 28th of January, 2011, that the idea of an electronic medium of imparting education to the largest population of India, which resides in rural areas, found its shape as eVidyaloka. eVidyaloka stands for that opportunity to one and all, who wants to learn but falls short of the means to do so.  Founded by two techno geeks, Venkat Sriraman and Satish Vishwanathan, eVidyaloka's genesis lies in an aspiration to transform the education landscape in the rural and remote parts of India. They believed that every child carries the same potential to learn and excel, and deserve the same opportunity to learn, irrespective of the socio-cultural settings, geographies and other demographics. eVidyaloka’s educational philosophy is to contribute towards developing this human capital by equipping the children...

5 years it is !!

When I joined eVidyaloka in 2015, I only meant to get a job that would allow me a stipulated time for my family. Within a month, it started engulfing me into a feeling of belongingness, responsibility and a lot of joy. Since then there have been times, when I took time off from my family to be with eVidyaloka and what it stands for- children and their well being. It's my 5th year in eVidyaloka. Now I realize what I set out to do while still a student, and lost way in between, have finally found a path in the form of eVidyaloka. Hence, as a tribute to my 5 years long stint in eVidyaloka, I must put together the paths threaded and journeys made here, to be able to relive this phase of my life whenever I would want to look back. Sometime back, someone had mentioned eVidyaloka as a "feeling". It just made a lot of sense to me. If it wasn't for this feeling of responsibility towards the rural children , who deserves to learn and grow and achieve what they want, all these y...

When Corona knocks us down, zeal to learn keeps the flame of education alive - the Learn From Home way

The year 2020 has not been kind to anybody, let alone the children. They are the most vulnerable at the moment as yet without a voice. While everyone is concerned about their schools and loss of learning, what they are perhaps losing the most is their playtime with peers. Social connect and  emotional bonding with peers is something we naturally have around us as we grow up, and hence have never given a thought about its importance. Most life skills are learnt though these connect and bonding. The school and the classroom are the places where children build this connect and learn, not just from teachers, but from their peers. All this learning came to a grinding halt due to the pandemic caused by COVID 19. There has been efforts world over to continue the learning through online mediums as an alternative. At a broader level, this is perhaps the only and most effective way to connect schools, their teachers and peers to the children. However if we look deeper into the rural si...

Leadership Curriculum Program - A Platform to Dream, Aspire and become a Leader

Leadership quality is a combination of an inherent as well a learnt  skill . One needs to nurture the skill to be able to display it efficiently. In education world "Leadership" as a concept is inherent in every aspect. Be it in the form of class monitors, school heads or student union leaders in universities and colleges. However, until the children understand the meaning of being a leader, the purpose of having such positions does not fulfil  its purpose. Leadership Curriculum program in eVidyaloka is an effort to make children realise exactly this-the meaning of being a leader and the idea of leading a change. Leadership Curriculum is an annual extra-curricular event conducted by eVidyaloka in the rural schools of India. eVidyaloka believe that children should also be groomed to understand their capabilities and further strengthen it. So far, we have held three sessions of Leadership Curriculum Program. Every time we set out to make leaders out of these childr...

Independence Day- Celebration of Diversity in eVidyaloka

Children perhaps are the best representatives of what “independence” stands for. They are unbiased in their thoughts. They dream and speak without inhibitions. We in eVidyaloka, strive to keep this trait in them intact. As we celebrated our 73rd Independence Day, the fervour and excitement that children exhibit show beautifully how the diverse culture of India is celebrated in its true form. Let us take a tour of how this day was celebrated across the country by the children of eVidyaloka. While children of Tamil Nadu used Kolam or rangoli art to represent their ideas of nationalism in their own simplicity, children in Jharkhand broke stereotypes of gender bias by parading around the grounds, participating in cultural activities and sports. In Karnataka and Andra Pradesh children bared the rain to participate in celebrations with great enthusiasm. West Bengal students made sure they don’t miss celebrating Raksha Bandhan, which coincided on the same day this year. They tied R...
