Vmeet- When eVidyaloka Volunteers meet- 19-20

                          Vmeet- When eVidyaloka volunteers meets

The Vmeet, as we call it in eVidyaloka, is a step forward to help built a stronger and sustainable volunteer community for eVidyaloka. Vmeet, that comes from volunteer meet is an effort to bring together volunteers residing in a particular city to meet and share experiences of volunteering with eVidyaloka. This year, we have been particularly at it to conceptualize and make the meet happen across the globe.

This year eVidyaloka piloted seven Vmeets, with a total number of about 140 volunteers participating across all loactions.  Listed below are dates and venue of meets:

                                          Bangalore – 08th June 2019 – Cubbon Park

Mumbai – 27th July 2019 – Renaissance Club International, Andheri, Mumbai

New Delhi– 17th Aug 2019 – Stirring Minds, Asaf Ali Rd, Turkman Gate, New Delhi

Hyderabad – 24th Aug 2019 – Eat Street, Tank Bund

Chennai – 07th Sep - AID India Office, Royapettah, Chennai

San Jose – 08th Sep - Inchins Bamboo Garden Restaurant, 55 River Oaks Pl #70, San Jose, CA

London – 21st Sep 2019 – Canary Wharf

When a gathering is of passionate people, who have found a way to channelize their passion, an explosion of ideas and views is bound to happen. In each Vmeet we have been witness to such a phenomenon. What ran common in all the gatherings is the undying spirit to make a difference in the lives of rural children. What they teach from books is a small part of the contribution that they make. The actual impact is instilling the capacity to dream of a better life and achieve them among the children.

Discussion, sharing of ideas and experiences in the Vmeets

Apart from sharing experiences, the volunteers came up with some suggestions as well:

·      Subject wise discussion groups on social media

·      Phonetics as a subject to be introduced

·      Improving the regional language skills of the children

·      Need for atleast half yearly Vmeets

The discussion also revolved around the eVidyaloka model as such. The convenience given to the volunteers, who are able to teach from wherever they are, was much appreciated. The realtime connect with the children was another highlight of the model. Another aspect was that of the Class Assistant’s (CA) role.  Even during the times when internet network goes weak, classes doesn’t get much hampered, thanks to the CAs. In such situations, Class Assistants play a major role in engaging the class. The volunteers send offline material and the CA conducts classes as directed by the volunteer. We did have one CA participating at the Delhi meet and one Field coordinator at the Chennai meet.

What each Vmeet left behind is a plan for the next one, and a lot of experiences that spoke loudly about the connect that volunteers have with their students. This is the connect that will bring the real change that eVidyaloka envisions.

5 years it is !!

When I joined eVidyaloka in 2015, I only meant to get a job that would allow me a stipulated time for my family. Within a month, it started engulfing me into a feeling of belongingness, responsibility and a lot of joy. Since then there have been times, when I took time off from my family to be with eVidyaloka and what it stands for- children and their well being. It's my 5th year in eVidyaloka. Now I realize what I set out to do while still a student, and lost way in between, have finally found a path in the form of eVidyaloka. Hence, as a tribute to my 5 years long stint in eVidyaloka, I must put together the paths threaded and journeys made here, to be able to relive this phase of my life whenever I would want to look back. Sometime back, someone had mentioned eVidyaloka as a "feeling". It just made a lot of sense to me. If it wasn't for this feeling of responsibility towards the rural children , who deserves to learn and grow and achieve what they want, all these y...

Leadership Curriculum Program - A Platform to Dream, Aspire and become a Leader

Leadership quality is a combination of an inherent as well a learnt  skill . One needs to nurture the skill to be able to display it efficiently. In education world "Leadership" as a concept is inherent in every aspect. Be it in the form of class monitors, school heads or student union leaders in universities and colleges. However, until the children understand the meaning of being a leader, the purpose of having such positions does not fulfil  its purpose. Leadership Curriculum program in eVidyaloka is an effort to make children realise exactly this-the meaning of being a leader and the idea of leading a change. Leadership Curriculum is an annual extra-curricular event conducted by eVidyaloka in the rural schools of India. eVidyaloka believe that children should also be groomed to understand their capabilities and further strengthen it. So far, we have held three sessions of Leadership Curriculum Program. Every time we set out to make leaders out of these childr...

A decade ago- when eVidyaloka thought of a decade later.

Its a 10 for eVidyaloka! When the year 2020 impelled the world into adapting the online medium of communication, evidyaloka felt totally at home with the online medium. It was on this day, the 28th of January, 2011, that the idea of an electronic medium of imparting education to the largest population of India, which resides in rural areas, found its shape as eVidyaloka. eVidyaloka stands for that opportunity to one and all, who wants to learn but falls short of the means to do so.  Founded by two techno geeks, Venkat Sriraman and Satish Vishwanathan, eVidyaloka's genesis lies in an aspiration to transform the education landscape in the rural and remote parts of India. They believed that every child carries the same potential to learn and excel, and deserve the same opportunity to learn, irrespective of the socio-cultural settings, geographies and other demographics. eVidyaloka’s educational philosophy is to contribute towards developing this human capital by equipping the children...
