When Corona knocks us down, zeal to learn keeps the flame of education alive - the Learn From Home way

The year 2020 has not been kind to anybody, let alone the children. They are the most vulnerable at the moment as yet without a voice. While everyone is concerned about their schools and loss of learning, what they are perhaps losing the most is their playtime with peers. Social connect and  emotional bonding with peers is something we naturally have around us as we grow up, and hence have never given a thought about its importance. Most life skills are learnt though these connect and bonding. The school and the classroom are the places where children build this connect and learn, not just from teachers, but from their peers. All this learning came to a grinding halt due to the pandemic caused by COVID 19. There has been efforts world over to continue the learning through online mediums as an alternative. At a broader level, this is perhaps the only and most effective way to connect schools, their teachers and peers to the children. However if we look deeper into the rural si...

Leadership Curriculum Program - A Platform to Dream, Aspire and become a Leader

Leadership quality is a combination of an inherent as well a learnt  skill . One needs to nurture the skill to be able to display it efficiently. In education world "Leadership" as a concept is inherent in every aspect. Be it in the form of class monitors, school heads or student union leaders in universities and colleges. However, until the children understand the meaning of being a leader, the purpose of having such positions does not fulfil  its purpose. Leadership Curriculum program in eVidyaloka is an effort to make children realise exactly this-the meaning of being a leader and the idea of leading a change. Leadership Curriculum is an annual extra-curricular event conducted by eVidyaloka in the rural schools of India. eVidyaloka believe that children should also be groomed to understand their capabilities and further strengthen it. So far, we have held three sessions of Leadership Curriculum Program. Every time we set out to make leaders out of these childr...

Independence Day- Celebration of Diversity in eVidyaloka

Children perhaps are the best representatives of what “independence” stands for. They are unbiased in their thoughts. They dream and speak without inhibitions. We in eVidyaloka, strive to keep this trait in them intact. As we celebrated our 73rd Independence Day, the fervour and excitement that children exhibit show beautifully how the diverse culture of India is celebrated in its true form. Let us take a tour of how this day was celebrated across the country by the children of eVidyaloka. While children of Tamil Nadu used Kolam or rangoli art to represent their ideas of nationalism in their own simplicity, children in Jharkhand broke stereotypes of gender bias by parading around the grounds, participating in cultural activities and sports. In Karnataka and Andra Pradesh children bared the rain to participate in celebrations with great enthusiasm. West Bengal students made sure they don’t miss celebrating Raksha Bandhan, which coincided on the same day this year. They tied R...

Selfie covering miles to tell stories of Teacher-Student connect

Education has always been based on relationship between a teacher and child. A Guru-Shishya, where they sit together, interact, have dialogue, explore and learn. With altered ways making inroads due to technological innovations, the classroom now looks very different in the 21st century. While children are exposed to online self-learning content, on the other hand, they are also interacting with teachers staying far away, through online medium such as Skype. This has altered the teacher-student relationship as well. Unlike before when the relationship was an outcome of the teaching-learning process, now relationship building and have a personal connect with the children is the starting point. In eVidyaloka, we see several instances of this relationship as we peep into our online classrooms, and its manifestation in various creative and heartwarming ways. One such is the "Selfie with my class" initiative. While selfie is more a way for self gratification, I have come acr...

Teacher's Day 2019 at eVidyaloka

In the context of teacher-student relationship, whenever "gratitude" is expressed, its always from the students towards their teachers. The table seems to have turned in eVidyaloka, where the teachers never fall short of expressing their gratitute to the students, who end up teaching them about life. Teacher Day, 2019, brought into the fore several such testimonies from the volunteer teachers. Each one talks about gratitude that these teachers and mentors have towards their students. eVidyaloka in Chengarbasa, Jharkhand

Chengarbasa- Impact Story A little over 3.5 years and 38 centres down, my journey in evidyaloka always felt like an eventful and meaningful journey. Among all the centres that I handled, one centre lead the path for me and showed me time and again what more can be done in this space. This is the Chengarbasa centre in Giridih district. It has given me milestones everytime to reach, for other centres. eVidyaloka established online classes in Chengarbasa in the the year 2015, just when I joined eVidyaloka. The first among the highlights of this centre is the connect of the volunteers, school staff and class assistant with the community. This is the centre where a volunteer teacher, Dr. Maleka Fakhri initiated the mother’s day celebration and same was celebrated in the village the same day to include all mothers who could not make it to the school. The PTMs have been a regular feature since the first year of this centre. Thanks to a superbly dedicated and determined centre admin D...
